Design support & sample technician

This is a Full-time position in Montreal, QC posted May 15, 2019.

Our client, an expanding Montreal based manufacturing leader, is currently seeking a Design Support & Sample Technician who will be part of the Engineering team working primarily on parts drawings, recreation of existing parts from old formats, supporting fixture development, sample creation, testing, design team support, tooling, design detailing, and development.

Work will be involved in the development for the North American Office, Shops, Healthcare, Hospitality and Institutional market segments.

Responsibilities: Engineering/Production support: Build old part/assemblies in solid works.

Create new assembly drawings as required.

Create exploded views for bills of materials.

Support the design process for preliminary concepts.

Support the design of special products and parts.

Create mock-ups to study form and proportion.

– Physical mock-ups Rough CAD models Creation of Samples and Sample Supervision.

Creation of Bills of Material and cost estimates.

Prepare documentation.

Assembly drawings.

Maintain proper part drawings database.

Creating parts/assemblies in 3d cad software (Solidworks).

Creating 2d dimensional drawings of parts and assemblies in Solidworks, Autocad, and Adobe Illustrator.

Creating perspective views of assemblies to be used in Brochures, Spec sheets, Step by Step Installation Instructions,.

The design of jigs & testing apparatus for manufacturing products.

Requirements: Education : Minimum DEC in Mechanical Engineering technology or equivalent.

Experience : Experience preferably in an industrial design environment or Mechanical Design Environment.

Design Software : AutoCAD, Solid Works, Office, Other: – A strong graphic and aesthetics sense.

Understanding of DFMA Design for manufacturing and Assembly techniques including sheet metal, extrusions, and die-casting moulding an asset, Knowledge of lighting is an asset Good communication skills Ability to work in a team setting Demonstrated project leadership skills Multitasking
