As an Executive Director, Professional Practice & Education, Nursing with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of Nursing and inter-professional practice models, standards, and quality practice environments, professional development, and education across VCH.
  • Provide senior leadership and direction to a broad portfolio that integrates Professional Practice standards and accountabilities, evolving clinical practice and education models, and Health Sector workforce strategy.
  • Lead Professional Practice strategic planning, development, transformation, and initiatives support for clinical programs across the care continuum and across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
  • Lead the integration of clinical information with care environment requirements for practice, education and research by developing solutions and conceptual models of patient care in a complex inter-professional environment.
  • Provide senior leadership in developing professional practice standards of care consistent with the values of the organization, clinical professional development standards, and representative of patient and family centred care.
  • Collaborate with other executives and senior leaders on all aspects of strategic planning, quality and clinical transformation that cross and affect major segments of the organization to move initiatives forward, ensuring a commitment to best practice in all aspects of patient care across the care continuum.
  • Liaise, strategize, consult, negotiate and collaborate with various external healthcare and government organizations both provincially and nationally, including the Ministry of Health Nursing, BC Regulatory Colleges, Post-Secondary Academic Institutions, and other stakeholder organizations.
  • Develop collaborative networks within VCH including senior operational leaders, the People Team, Quality & Patient Safety, Decision Support, Medical Leaders, VCH HAMAC, and Regional Corporate Services Directors.
  • Work together in a collaborative dyad leadership model promoting inter-professional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement. Each leader is accountable for specific and measurable goals in their area, as well as shared accountabilities to spearhead integrated clinical strategy, act as change agents, and advocate for initiatives across VCH to enhance models of care and improve patient outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with Clinical Informatics and Virtual Health and the Nurse Practitioners portfolio to collectively drive strategic priorities forward.
  • Be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of Nursing and inter-professional practice models, standards, and quality practice environments, professional development, and education across VCH.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in relevant field such as: Nursing, Leadership, Health Administration, Public Health or other relevant area.
  • Ten (10) years’ recent, related progressively senior clinical leadership experience or an equivalent combination education and experience.
  • Experience in leading professional practice, program management, change management, or strategic initiative development, implementation, and system planning in a large health organization.
  • Demonstrated experience with research process and methodology, as well as evaluation of complex systems, program planning, implementation and evaluation approaches.
  • Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Possesses understanding of provincial legislation, health statutes and regulations pertaining to patient care, safety, and quality.
  • Demonstrated understanding of role in advancing VCH’s commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and initiatives for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Knowledge of current and future health care issues that impact the designated portfolio.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures and leadership roles to support patient-centred frameworks.
  • Negotiates, facilitates, builds consensus and effectively collaborates to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government to ensure well-informed decision-making.
  • Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals.
  • Applies superior judgment and political expertise as well as strong communication skills to relay sensitive information and effectively persuade and negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that promote a respectful, motivating and empowering work environment, where individual competencies can thrive.
  • Analysis of complex information from multiple sources and incorporates information into documents, plans and strategies.
  • Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of assigned programs/services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization.
  • Continuously seeks to develop and improve service delivery, standards and practices.
  • Uses knowledge of change theory and exemplifies leadership behaviour in all endeavours.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
