Position Summary Homewood Health is seeking registered mental health professionals (psychologists, social workers, counsellors) to work on a contract basis providing Single Session counselling support, information, and resources over the telephone to clients who require immediate assistance (mitigating risk factors may or may not be involved).

This is an occasional, work from home position, with shifts primarily during evenings and weekends, and flexibility to accept shifts based on your availability.

You need to provide a quiet, confidential workspace and connectivity; we’ll provide you with a telephone and headset.

The telephone will require a physical connection to your router and hence, solely functions/is dependent on optimal internet access.

What you’ll be doing
• Accept telephone transfers from the call center of client callers requesting or requiring immediate support.

• Provide quick and effective telephonic assessments of client presenting issues regarding emotional health, family, wellness, work issues, crisis support, and a variety of other personal matters in order to clarify present and immediate goals
• Provides counselling support from a strengths-based and solution focused approach
• Provides client with tangible strategies the client can implement independently
• Offers clients appropriate resources and recommendations for services
• Completes intervention notes and any other tracking documentation as needed per Homewood Health’s standards.

• Provide suicide interventions as well as, interventions for domestic violence, homicidal ideations and reporting child welfare concerns to Children’s Aid Society, as necessary
• Completes administrative tasks such as completing clinical notes, seeking consultations from First Call Care Leadership or on-call Clinical Managers.

• Other department tasks, as assigned.

What we’re looking for
• Master’s Degree in a counselling related field; or Bachelor of Social Work degree with appropriate registration (proof of certification required) and counselling experience
• Ability to be flexible and creative in approach to single-session counselling
• Registration/clinical membership with a regulatory college, body in your province of practice (this includes membership of relevant mental health associations)
• Professional liability insurance coverage of $2,000,000 or as otherwise determined by Homewood Health™ (obtained prior to hire)
• 3 years experience in counselling, social services, or addiction service settings
• Strong skills in risk assessment
• Crisis hotline and telephonic crisis counselling experience is an asset
• Ability to proficiently and independently use technology including, but not limited to, computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Windows, Word) and Outlook
• Experience working in the EFAP field is an asset
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Superior active listening skills and a demonstrated ability to be empathic to all client concerns
