About the job:
In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Manager, Service and Support is responsible for providing leadership and management of the medical device service and support activities of the Biomedical Engineering Department by utilizing technology management principles in collaboration with regional multi-disciplinary teams. Specific accountabilities include managing the Service and Support Biomedical Engineering Technologist Team, department budget and expenditures, customer expectations and future needs, service process improvements, external service agreements, and vendor relationships.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leads a team of biomedical engineering Supervisors and Technologists in the service and support of Interior Health (IH) medical devices. Responsible for recruiting and hiring Supervisors, their ongoing development, performance management, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action and termination as required. Assists with the performance management of Biomedical Engineering Technologists where appropriate. Administers collective agreements and represents the employer in the grievance process, on various union/management committees, and during essential service situations.

• Works closely with the Biomedical Manager, Risk and Quality to allocate support services to ensure goals of the Department are being met. Assists the Director in setting annual Department goals and objectives.

• Works closely with the Biomedical Information Systems Specialist to track new equipment and equipment disposal and summarizes annual support charge for additional funding requests.

• Manages service and support of medical devices maintained through external service contracts. Approves purchases and renewals and tracks overall costs.

• Works closely with the Director, Healthcare Technology Management to develop an annual budget based on past expenditures, available support charge, and contract costs. Reviews, tracks, and reports on budget expenditures.

• Creates written policies and processes to guide the Service and Support team and organizes and tracks activities related to biomedical engineering technology service and support.

• Provides informal and formal recommendations to Clinical Department Managers and Directors on medical equipment service and support issues. Assists Supervisors in resolving clinical customer service concerns.
• Works with IMIT technical staff to integrate medical devices with the network. Ensures networked medical devices are appropriately configured for cyber security.

• Investigates and supports opportunities to harmonize the services provided by various IMIT technical support teams.

• Participates on relevant provincial biomedical engineering groups or committees as the IH representative.

• Maintains an expert level of knowledge of current practices, standards, and regulations relating to biomedical equipment technology by attending meetings, reviewing literature, and participating in other educational opportunities.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
