This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities Reporting to the manager, and under the direction of the recreation therapist, the Recreation Therapy Associate is a member of the health care team, providing support to clients and families through the application of therapeutic recreation intervention to support holistic functioning of clients.

The recreation therapy associate contributes to assessment, evidence-informed interventions, planning and evaluation of recreation therapy services.

Recreation therapy associates provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, related to the client’s leisure needs and overall plan of care.

Recreation therapy associates practice in adherence to recreation therapy practice standards and scope of employment.

Qualifications A post-secondary diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution Standard First Aid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BCLS CPR) Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities Ability to work effectively within a team of other healthcare professionals Ability to assist in the planning, developing, implemention and evaluation of Therapeutic Recreation programs Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/residents Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites Ability to work independently, without direct supervision
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
